FOR COREY
"That's all well and good, but you must be forgetting about the 2nd Amendment to the Constitution of the United States of America:
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof;
You see, when the government starts favoring any one group, others may be outcast. While this may get you want you want now, what's to say it doesn't bite you in the ass later?
Really, Prop 8 shouldn't even be considered. It is completely unconstitutional.
Also, when you think about it(if you disagree with Luther that thinking is a Sin) Prop 8 doesn't "protect" anything.
All it does is remove people's rights. It's an oppressive law and nothing else.
Last I checked, fascism was a bad thing."
I'm curious to know what your reasoning is for your last sentences here.
Prop 8 indeed does protect something. The Family.
And where does it say that Luther taught that Thinking was a sin? I don't quite understand what you said there. Can you clarify that for me?
And how is it unconstitutional? You're quoting the 2nd Amendment here, right? You need to rethink your use of it, Corey. "Governemt shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion; or prohibiting the free exercise thereof." If Prop 8 is to be voted down, then where would the rights of the Church be? Exactly. They'd be thrown out the window because gay couples would be demanding the preacher to marry them. And if refused, churches can be sued to no end because of discrimination. But isn't it a right of the Church to make that choice?
Voting No on Prop 8 takes away that choice; that Right.
I'm not a theologian or politician (as you can already see), but what I do base my beliefs in is not a whole bunch of "hate speech" or "discrimination." It's what's morally right.
I advise you and Katrine to read "Mere Christianity" by C.S.Lewis. He's not the type to shove "religion" down your throat. Read his first chapter and read the chapter on marriage. I hope you find it helpful.
I sincerely apologize if I came across as hateful or anything of the sort to you or Katrine. If that's the case, then I'll pray that someone else can talk about this to the both of you in a more effective way.
