Read: "The Hunger Games" series

Illustration of "The Hunger Games" by Suzanne Collins. I do not own the rights.

I was able to squeeze a little bit of reading here and there during the summer. A book series I just finished is "The Hunger Games" by Suzanne Collins. For those of you who are familiar with the book/manga/anime called "Battle Royale," you will find that the two are similar. But only up to a certain degree. Both stories are based in a world where, for the entertainment of the masses, children are forced to battle each other to the death till there is one victor. Having not actually read "Battle Royale" I can't really say which series is better or make anymore comparisons.

Moving on, "The Hunger Games" is definitely a unique series; being written in first person and present tense it pulls the reader into a journey alongside it's ingenue, Katniss Everdeen. Collins makes "The Hunger Games" a standout in it's category of suspense and adventure with her relatable and lovable characters and fast paced action and dialogue. The most unique aspect about the story is that you learn about who the characters are as they learn about themselves. After finishing the series, I felt as if I took that journey with them; growing and maturing as they did. Collins has indeed made a deep impression in the literary world with this series, and I cannot wait to read her next book.
