Please Lower The Level of Your Subtitles.

Ever watch a foreign movie?  Do you just put your movie on mute and read the subtitles the whole time? Or do you keep the movie's sound at normal level so you can hear what's going on in the background even just for the noise of someone's footsteps? Especially in a suspenseful movie where people sneak up on each other and murder one another? Imagine sitting in a room with a couple people sleeping, a few watching aforementioned movie, and the rest playing a board game. The two most annoying people playing the board game (when it ends) get up and start talking. They talk, they talk, they talk. The movie ends. The movie people start talking a little bit, and the board game people give them crap about it. The movie people snap back by saying that if they let them finish talking then they'll just go to bed upstairs. The board game people then harp about how the movie was loud (when it was turned up only  because they were talking too loud while playing the board ...

But instead, I'm going to post this on here and listen to it while trying to drown them out. By drown them out I mean keeping the volume really low so I don't offend anyone.

Taboo.

Anyone else watch the show Taboo on National Geographic? There's a new episode coming up about a Filipino man who is so obsessed with Superman that he actually gets plastic surgery to look like him. Here's a link to the trailer:  Being Superman

Crazy. Ranting.

WHOA. It's been four months since I posted anything. That's not a long time at all. So many things have happened since then! One of which I really need to have a rant on because I feel like no one gets or sees what I'm seeing...so now I feel like I'm the one who's taken some high dose of crazy pills and need am in desperate need of someone; ANYONE to hear me out. *Cue long and exhausting background story from beginning to end* I suppose I should start with my boyfriend's brother. He's an Azusa University Philosophy major who is going into his second year into becoming a lawyer. When I first met him, he seemed to not take me seriously and he came off (in my opinion, obviously) a bit arrogant and not as friendly as I would have hoped. So that already made it hard for me to fit in with my boyfriend's family. After a few months that my boyfriend and I had been seeing each other, his brother starts seeing this girl who is a bit older than him but is (...

Currently Reading: "The Graveyard Book" by Neil Gaiman

Image
Neil Gaiman is by no means a common children's book writer; nor is he a noobie when it comes to weaving together a tale with both innocence and darkness.  In some respects, he could be considered a more PG-rated version of Tim Burton. Most of his books resonate with me the same way the later Harry Potter books did. It feels like a young reader's kind of book but possesses that adult quality that pulls older readers in. I read his other book called, "Coraline" a few years back. The movie and the book were surprisingly similar and I liked the added character of Wyborn (not sure about the spelling.) It helped immensely because the character of Coraline tended to have a lot of internal thoughts and I think it's hard to translate that onto the movie screen in a way that doesn't take too much away from the story. Somehow, Henry Sellick was able to pull such a thing off and I believe he chose a very creative way in which to do it without losing the integrity of...

Just Watched: "Don't Be Afraid of the Dark"

Image
I want to begin by saying how much I love Guillermo Del Toro's movies. Probably my all time favorite is "Pan's Labyrinth." His storytelling; the way he makes you feel not only fear but also wonder is an ability few directors/screenwriters possess. Without spoiling anything in the movie in case you care to watch it in your spare time in the middle of the night, I will say that the story is both like and unlike anything you may have seen or read before. Great pacing; talented cast; and of course innovative and imaginative writing. A great movie overall and one that I highly recommend.

Currently Reading: "Howl's Moving Castle"

LOVED THE MOVIE. That's the problem with books turned into movies. Watching the movie first tends to permanently imprint in your mind what those characters look like and how the story progressed. It's difficult to read the book after. Your mind is not blank and your imagination is limited to what you watched in the movie. If you read the book first, you may not enjoy the movie as much because it does not match what you originally pictured in your mind. However, I am focused in keeping my mind blank as I'm reading "Howl's Moving Castle." Diana Wynne Jones has always been one of my favorite writers since I was in 4th grade.  The first book I read by her was "A Tale of Time City."  Seriously, get your hands on this book when you can because it is a thrilling story from the perspective of a trio of clever teenagers caught in the middle of the destruction of their world. In "Howl's Moving Castle," the story revolves...

Awkward.

You know when you see someone you don't really want to see and you try to avoid them at all costs but sometimes fail? I've experienced that quite a few times in my life. Most of the situations I've been in lately have turned out badly due to my awkward and strange behavior. I like to console myself after the uncomfortable event by finding a reason as to why I added that awkward element and how I can prevent that. Sadly, I'm not very good at learning my lesson the first time. I feel that it has something to do with "wanting to fit in." I put that in quotes because to me the phrase means a lot of things. Because of certain circumstances in my life I am not able to be myself around people. I find that having a facade works in most cases; however, it seems to be slipping off more often lately. I have been influenced by many people growing up; unfortunately not all of those people have left a good imprint in my mind or on my current behaviors. I suppose it is...

Sunday Night's Alright For Watching.

Image
Picture I uploaded on Instagram. Wow what a season finale! I have to admit, it went by so quickly. It's strange, I used to judge people who watched this show; but now that I've seen it, I realize what a great show it is. True there is a lot of sex, foul language, and violence but it's quite difficult not to like the main character. Can't wait for the next season! After that ending who knows what will happen!

Will Smith is Tre Cool

iLove.

Been forever and a day since I last posted. Just wanted to give a review on the iPhone 4 with the Verizon network and some other tidbits about what's going on in my life. First, I have become an iPhone junkie. It's apparently an inevitable symptom of having an iPhone. There are just so many apps to check out ya know?? Anyway, I'm quite satisfied with the way my phone works right now. I'm not too picky on glitches per se; all I care about is overall performance. I initially had some trouble with my texting and incoming phone calls due to a mixup that was made when I set up my plan and made my order. I went to a Verizon Wireless store, and was pleasantly surprised by the service that was provided. Immediately I was asked about what I came in for, and to wait for 10 minutes for the next available employee.  The guy who helped me was really nice and he knew exactly what he was talking about when we found out what the problem was. All in all, I'm quite pleased with Ve...
Is it still too early to start playing Christmas songs? I've already played my first one... It was terrible. An over twangy cover of "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas" by one of my least favorite artists. As they say on 30 Rock, "Pre-before, Natal-ruined." Besides that, I've been thinking a lot about my grandma lately. Around this time last year, she had fallen very ill and was taken to the hospital where, a little over a month later, she passed. Early today, I was speaking to an old family friend, reminiscing about my grandma's sweet demeanor and how strong her faith was. It hurt so much to remember. That feeling you get when you lose someone and you wish you had more time to spend with them; to tell them everything on your heart and to make sure they know you love them....that feeling hasn't diminished in the least this whole year. I can remember every time I said, "I love you" to her while she was in the hospital; ...

"Annoying Facebook Status!" Dislike.

This sounds extremely petty, but I'm getting quite irritated with these people that keep posting about how perfect their life is on Facebook. "I have the perfect husband!" "I have the perfect dog!" "I have the perfect family!" "I have the perfect friends!" "I have the perfect home!" "I have the perfect wedding!" "I have the perfect job!" "I have the perfect life!" You may think that I'm exaggerating these quotes, but I assure you I'm not.  I've actually seen these statements posted on Facebook! And as happy as I am for these individual's happiness, I would really appreciate it if they turned down the annoying arrogance a few notches.  It doesn't help that the lives of some people, myself included, aren't as content as others. Many of us are not as fortunate in our given circumstances as these self edifying individuals and it does not help to see their proclamations all...

iBought.

Well.  I got one. An iPhone 4. It'll be about a week before it comes in the mail. I've also decided to sign up with Verizon. This will be my first time using their network and I hope it's a good experience. From what I've heard and read about them from multiple sources, they provide good service. I'll have to wait to see if that's true. To be honest, I'm almost fit to burst with excitement! I've been meaning to do this for quite some  time but was deterred from the cost it took to buy it. However, ever since I began changing my spending habits, I've been able to save up enough money for it. Can't wait to do a review soon! I really hope it's worth the money and the wait. PS. The picture here has been changed due to a few jerks online who decided to not let me use their image of the iPhone.

RIP Steve Jobs The end of a great career and a great life. I can only hope that he was a Christian or at least made peace with God. It's such a sad thing to hear that the life of a great innovator, great inventor, and great visionary has passed.  I'll always admire his willingness and courage to take the risks necessary to make such a great company. And now I really feel like I need an iPhone XP

Premiering tonight on FX is this new show by "Glee" writer Ryan Murphy. A bit far from musicals and slushies I think. From what I've read about the show, it's about a family with a troubled past (and by troubled I mean the husband has had an affair) who move from Boston to Los Angeles to live in a run down house that they soon find out is haunted. To me, it seems hard to believe this is actually a series and not another horrible B horror movie. However, there seems to be high hopes for the show from recent articles on Yahoo! and other entertainment sites. Plus, look at the promotional poster! There's a pregnant woman, who seems to be lifted up into the air by a creepy looking dude wrapped in black trash bags who is hanging from the ceiling. Still, my curiosity is getting the better of me and I think I'm going to see if all the hype I've heard is worth it. Time to get some warm blankets and a salted caramel hot chocolate on this wonderful rainy ...

Kristen "Meh" Stewart

Image
Courtesy of Yahoo! Now I may be asking for the worst here, but I can't help thinking that people must be crazy to think that Kristen Stewart is that beautiful.  I'm not saying this because I don't like Twilight (if you've read some of my older posts, you'll know that I used to love the books...before it was turned into a movie and before I realized what horrible writing it was). I'm saying this because I just don't find her attractive! There seems to be a trend lately; a trend consisting of average looking girls getting a lot of attention, publicity and praise for being so plain. I'm not trying to insinuate that this is a bad thing necessarily, but that it's a trend that is not to my liking. It's as if this view on beauty has all of us forgetting what beauty used to be like. I don't mean women like Megan Fox or Scarlett Johanson; more like Judy Garland and Billie Holiday, you know? Classic beauty, I guess. When sophisticated, class...

Time-Out.

I can't handle this anymore. How do people do it? Work. School. Church. Family. Friends. Boyfriend. Sleep. It's too much. But every time I try to tell people that I can't take more, they always try to push more on me. I try to say that my body can't carry anything else, I get more. Not less. Why can't I just say no? Why can't people see that I'm deteriorating right in front of them? I realize that there are people who are able to work full time and go to school full time....but I'm not those people! I'm not like them.  And it really is quite unfair to say that I should be able to, "like everyone else." That's just assuming things about me that people don't know, isn't it? I understand that i"m going on a bit of a rant here, but I'm really tired of it. I can't mentally, emotionally, or physically handle the stress any longer. I find myself clenching my teeth in the morning for goo...

Read: Artemis Fowl: The Atlantis Complex Personally, this is not one of my favorite books of the Artemis Fowl series.  Even after reading the teaser on the front flap AND the first couple chapters, the story felt lackluster in it's usual adventurous appeal. Well, okay, the premise seemed a bit interesting at first, but I felt as if the plot went nowhere after the first couple pages. Eoin Colfer surprisingly had no real surprises for me in this new addition to the popular and well-loved Artemis Fowl book family. However negative my review may be of this book, I hope that you will still give it a chance as it is still a chapter in the life of the Irish boy genius. Though the book lacks in an interesting plot, it does contain a lot of information about Artemis Fowl that is good to know.
